The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi everyone, I'm just getting into chickens and have 2 welsummers and 3 welsummer/silkie mixes. I got the pure welsummers in August they were~9 mo and I just got my second eggs for Flow today. I just wanted to know from other wellie owners how these eggs compare.

Please tell me that it won't be spring until I start getting eggs again! I have been wondering why I am getting no eggs. We did kill a rat snake Sunday almost 6 ft long. Figured it had been egg hunting. But, I fluffed the nest day before yesterday and it still has not been laid in. Because of the molting, does that mean she will not lay for a while? I am so sad, if that is the story!!!

This chick is a Wellie/EE cross, but I thought I'd share because i think it's interesting that she's feathering in like a wellie, except she has a pea comb. She's 3 weeks old.

Although they will generally stop laying while molting, they will start up again if you put light on them. Around here, it simply gets too cold to ship when they start up again, so although I'll be getting eggs again in another 6-8 weeks, I won't ship until spring.

Froggy with chickens now! :
