The Welsummer Thread!!!!

It is probabally beacause they are LF birds(right?), IDK why, but Welsummers are not as friendly as chicks, but once they get a little bigger/adults they calm right down! Dont ask me why, but that just seems the way it is - at least from what I have noticed!!!

When I came inside the coop, they flew all over the place like they hated to be disturbed from their perches. However, they are still checking me out!

Nate, the club you just joined, they included the WCNA link in their website.

This morning, I got a very nice email from Ron Presley!

He only had Welsummers for a couple of years and got rid of them. They were from Sandhill Preservation. He does not know where Glenn Drowns got his Welsummers (he is mum about where he got them when I asked him some years ago, when I was looking at Welsummers). Now, you guys know how I feel about Sandhill. Not going to say anymore.

Ron said he dispersed his flock about ten years ago. Probably to focus on his Marans, that would be MY guess.

Nate I saw that LOL! Really nice people!

Good to hear! Its good that he didnt import them and his line just went off the face of the earth! When I heard there was a Presley line, I was thinking maybe something happened to the strain, and didnt get out to the public much! Phew!

I would like to guess that Sandhill's Welsummers USED to be good when Glenn acquired them. After several generations, they may have changed or lax on the standards and not keeping up with the culling that their present flock may have suffered more dissatified customers today than it was many years ago.

I'm still digging to find out where Sandhill got their Welsummers.......only a matter of time.
