The Welsummer Thread!!!!

A few of our members give me quite a laugh today about the White Welsummers.
Here are some of the comments:

"A neon sign that says EAT ME"

"That would be a short exercise on, how to raise & lose chickens!"

Seriously, all of us had white birds sometime in our lives, we do know we have to take preventive measures in protecting them if we want to keep them around. I used to have 12 White Leghorns on my farm and I have not ever lost one until I sold them. They were out free ranging and we were only five miles from the State Park, not one ever picked them off. Including the midnight raids that the coons, possums and weasels take a hit on my birds but left the White Leghorns alone. Either they are very smart about avoiding predators or they are just so dumb.

You know I can't afford them. I guess that you'll have to build another pen. I can lend you a roo if you need.

BTW those pullets in the picture were from the same hatch.

At 31 weeks, my MPC wellie that has been squatting for 2 weeks finally laid a nice little terracotta egg, now if my other wellie pullet would stop free loading it would be fantastic!
