OMG Taz, I'm so sorry.

How awful.

Kim......congrats on the broody wellie! Keep us posted whether she's a good mommy!

Pinkchick, I hope she will beat the odds of being a good mommy. Sure they can brood but horrible mothers in caring for the chicks. She would be one of those "unpluggable incubators" LOL!

Let's hope she will brood AND care for her chicks, in the whole ten yards!

Thanks Ewesheep and Happy!
For sure I will keep you all posted as to her progress. What I find this morning may tell me if she is serious or not...I moved her to a broody box with her eggs last night......ouch was she ever hissed at me. She told everyone about it for about 3 hours until the light in the building went off and all was finally quiet.

I would have much preferred it was one of my Marans, but such is life I guess.

Me thinks one day DH may just think that I have done it.....completely gone and lost all of my senses.

Thanks for giving me a giggle this morning Fay! I needed it!

Just went and checked on #18 and she is currently sitting tight on those eggs. She has a very determined look in her eye. Here's hoping!

I hope if she sits this thing out that she is a good mother, as I am excited to have a broody Wellie, I am also torn because part of me really likes that they naturally do not tend to go broody....but on the other hand it sure would be cool to say that I had a excellent broody Wellie girl who was a good mother....atleast once.

Whew! Am I ever glad I got my eggs from you when I did, Kim.

Me too! #18 is my favorite, love her coloring!

She's too funny...I had to go out and check on her again just now, she gave me the stink eye BIGTIME!!!! I think, she thinks, she's serious about this.

Will try to snap photo of her later but I always say I will do it and then I totally forget to take the camera out or if I do the batteries are dead.

Found dead in coop this morning, no apparent reason. Are Welsummers prone to sudden death? He was fine yesterday. No visible signs of injury. I skinned him out (though the feathers are kind of nasty) and found a big clot of blood just under the skin on the back of his neck. No puncture.

He did have a crooked keel... doubt that killed him, but maybe it indicates bad genetics?
