That is a very nice Welsummer Male. I believe the Tail covert white I am talking about is related to the too light undercolor just like in the Marans.

I will say this it is possible to breed out the white from these birds but we have to cull very hard. I am also a firm believer is double mating the birds then we know what is producing what and we can cull bad producers. Don

Also, does anyone know if it is okay to breed Welsummer hens with spurs? Personally, I have nothing against hens with spurs and didn't see anything in the Standard of Perfection (looking off UK verison). But, I haven't noticed any pictures of hens with them.

Spur on any breed except the Sumatra or games on the female is a defect. Don

I got my Welsummer bantams on Saturday. They're so beautiful. They're 12 weeks old, and the cock is about 14 weeks and is from a different breeding line than the hens.

I've almost got them eating out of my hand, they're quite wary of me though but the meal worms are getting them interested in my hand.

I have 2 eggs that are supposed to hatch Saturday out of 8 that were shipped to me. Only 4 made it in shipping, 2 had detached air cells and these two seem to be okay so far. I will try to recandle them at lockdown tonight.

Yes, don't fret about off markings when they are young. Mine looked weird, almost barred when young and the male also had white but you wouldn't know it now.
