I just had 2 Wellies go broody and one of them did a wonderful job raising the chicks, but she was horrible at sitting on the eggs. I tried to let her sit for about a week on some eggs, but every 5 minutes she kicked them out from under her. I had some 2-3 week old chicks I gave her instead of eggs, it worked great. However I don't believe that she would have hatched anything out had I left her trying to set on eggs. I broke the other broody Wellie gal so she didn't even get the chance to try. I personally don't have too many patience for broody hens...lol...and that karma is coming back to bite me this year........right now I have 6 broodies.

I just have to say that if this thread only consisted of photos of these lovely birds and their eggs...it would still be the best. Who could ever grow tired of looking at these birds? Not me! I love this thread!



I have 18 out of 20 Wellies running around in the brooder.....so far the count is 3 cockerels and the rest girls.
