The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Wow, you're closer than I thought - we were just up in Davis a few weeks ago for the "Tour de Cluck" (a very fun annual bicycle tour of backyard coops, got lots of great ideas), and you really aren't any farther away than that - 2 hours at most. You can count on me to come for a visit! Thanks for the invite - I'll be in touch for sure. I'm going to try to get some photos of my two girls this weekend to share.

Thanks again!

I was given some very good advice today, and I am trying to learn all I can about these terrific Wellies, so I started from the beginning of this thread and got to the photos of "Odin" - my my my, he is a big boy, isn't he? My "JD" has been growing by leaps and bounds, and I hope he ends up looking like his daddy! (this is from a 2009 post!).

Woo Hoo! Good luck! I'm looking forward to seeing how she does as a mother!

So far, she seems to be a good mama!! She's taught them to eat, drink, search for food etc. At one point a little chick got a little peck-ish

and took a bite of her eyelid and wouldn't let go!! It was hilarious

and upsetting:hit a the same time!!! If she was a bad mama she wouldn't have put up with that i don't think!!! I will post pics later!!

Great news - so glad to hear this! Too funny about that chick! It's so fun to see the photos of the chicks with the hens - we seem to get to see that so rarely (except for over on the Wyandotte thread - seems like everyone is having issues with broody hens, having to buy eggs to eat, and everyone over there is hilarious! 4 hens fighting over one egg to sit on....) Good goin'!

I'm thinking Squeaky, on the left, is a Welsummer. I also think Rudi is a Wyandotte and Missy is a Leghorn. They are all 11 weeks old. Is this correct?

P-funk, I would love to help you identify your birds however the birds need to fill the entire picture and the colors a little sharper to allow us to make a good guesstimate as to their breed. The white bird is probably a white rock, the black bird could be a wyandotte however not many black wyandottes are raised so it is more likely the more popular black australorp. The brown bird looks like it could be a rhode island red but with the current picture it is really hard to tell.

The birds are not Welsummers or anything close to a Welsummer. I have to say Red Production, Black Aussie and White Rock, not White Leghorn because the chick looks "heavier" in conformation.
