As soon as I get the basement back in order, I will take pictures of these suspect hatchery Wellies and a couple possible good chicks.

What is really cute is the Egyptian Fayoumi in with them! It started out with chipmunk looking stipling and now is black and white partridge.

I will HOPE REALLY HARD that Opa gets a GOOD HATCH.

I had the same problem trying to see my eggs and just let them all stay in for 25 days or so and I did get two that hatched later than expected and when I finally gave up and opened up eggs, there were 6 additional chicks that didn't make it probably due to foam bator irregular temps.

Chick season has been an awesome new experience for me this year. My TSC chicks are now in 2 happy homes and the second set of owners are falling over themselves cause my chicks grew up so sweet (NHR & Gold Comets). They hopped up in their laps and begged for attention and fell asleep there for an hour or so and now they are HOOKED on chickens. They are almost full grown at 12 weeks, too. So it was all good.

My Silkie Chick source for Chickenstock has dried up. She went to Colorado for the weekend and came back to sickly chicks so she is putting them through treatments (mostly coccidea) and not sending any with me and I'm not visiting there for awhile!

Been out looking at buying/renting a mobile home today. Hubby is gung ho for the rural trailer park on a lagoon with nice views, a doublewide, and 14 pages of rules including NO PETS. I was considering the wreck on an overgrown acre I could fence and at least have the small livestock (cats, dogs, chickens). Still lots of time til snow falls to figure it all out.

REALLY need my own place so I can ENJOY my life and not just EXIST. It will happen.

I am down to 4 laying hens and the tiny Wellie hatchery suspect chicks. It will be so nice if ANY of Opa's eggs hatch for me because hopefully they will be BETTER than these white chested and blonde ones!!

Hi all, I was having a good look over my roos yesterday in preparation for the breeding season.

Unfortunately it looks like my Wellie roo needs to be culled from the breeding pen.

A few months ago I noticed he had one main tail feather with a lot of white on it at the base. It then either fell out or one of the other roos helped remove it. It's now grown back and has even more white, most of the feather in fact. I'd hoped it would grow back better like I've read they can but this is defiantly looking worse.

Ugh! I hate that when it happens but it does. Any serious Welsummer breeder would do exactly what you are doing, to cull the roo out of the breeding. However you can sell him or put him in with Easter Eggers or Ameraucanas for some interesting Olive Eggers!

Yes, I have someone who was interested in him or a son to put with crossbred layers. She just wants a pretty, well behaved boy and doesn't care about breed so that's a good option for him.

Sadly to say, this evening, one of Nate's girls is not doing too well. She was the dumbest one of all LOL! Heat stroke is more like it because she kept puking up clear yellowish tint water fluid. Have been using Gatorade and I am guessing she is the only one that is not drinking out of the Gatorade flavored water.

I am guessing by morning she will be dead. I put her in the end of the run where it is cooler but she was so weak, that she laid on her side. Not even a year old. Now I have only ONE Nate girl and one Calicowood girl......seriously time for me to restock my pullet flock.

One good thing, Sarah Orpington is broody so I will order some EE's chicks under her.

I have a 8 wk old Wellsummer cockerell that has a few tail feathers that are grayish white in color. I know that that is not breed standard in adults, is this a problem at this age? Will he grow out of these feathers and the new feathers be more to breed standard? Any ideas? Guesses? I don't know's?
