Okay, here's my pullets egg. It is darker than it looks in the photo's. I couldn't seem to get a shot of the accurate coloring.

Anyway, it's darker than the first egg from her mother, so I'm excited to see if this girls eggs will get even darker.

I have a pretty big hand so this shows the color variation and the size of my Welsummer eggs.

All the dark or speckled eggs are from my Welsummers the few lighter eggs are from Australorps.

Faye from WV sent me some AWESOME looking Wellie eggs for me to hatch out! Will pop them in the bator tomorrow morning! Only two broke, slimy mess, thanks to the USPS but Fay did pack them so well! Some of the eggs got some red hue to it which it is soooooooooo beautiful!

I didn't buy the foam packers, they were used to send me eggs and I thought they worked pretty well. I still remember how I felt unpacking the eggs I got from Nate last year. After having what I thought were great eggs, unpacking his eggs was such a treat. I'm glad my girls are carrying on the tradition. I haven't bred any for next year and I want to consider egg color when I do. while they are all pretty good, there is one hen that lays my favorite, its so pretty I can always pick hers out of the bunch.


Ewesheep, any opinions on why the one egg is so pale??? I've never had one like that before and it seemed odd to see one that light. I haven't had a light one since then either. I do have two young pullets, I suppose it could have come from one of them, but its was a pretty big egg

Did she started laying? sometimes it happens. If you can keep an eye out if she does not continue to lay darker, cull her out. Neverthanless, it is a BIG egg.

The package did not shift at all. Thank God its only two eggs which it was on the bottom that broke. I washed off the goo off of three eggs while the others were just fine. Some of them I could not candle because they were so dark or the shell is very dense so I can not tell if there were any broken air cells. I will candle again about day 8 to 12 to see how they fare. I've had egg foam things before and those SSH eggs did just fine but the USPS were so rough with it. It was lucky there was NO leakage outside of package.

Incubator humming along as you please LOL and I would be just happy to get two to four chicks out of that lot.

Egg colors are important factor to look into. I love the reddish hues the best as well as the terra cotta ones. Glad there were not too many speckled one but my daughter LOVES the speckled ones so I will keep a few girls for her LOL!

Crossing fingers and hopefully Sarah Orpington will have her own chicks!

It is very difficult to photograph eggs but Opa did a good job on that one with the three eggs in his hand. Such vibrant colors! But I am very partial to Fay's eggs due to the richness.
