Yes I have that color before on my Wellies but not as chocolate as the Marans I used to have. As long they got a terra cotta hue to it, it is a Welsummer.

It is very rare to see a Welsummer egg with gloss finish.

My Wellie hen has moved her guinea keets into the main coop with the rest of the flock. She takes up almost an entire roost with them -- no one else DARES to get close to her!

I gave them to her. They are "new blood" I'm introducing into my guinea flock that I got as keets.

I know it is hard to tell from the picture, but can you offer me any insights on my boy. I have one or two that are much younger. This one was hatched in Late May.

I have a question about shafting on feathers of wellies. At county fair this summer, my welsummer hen placed well, but lost to an australorpe pullet because I was told that my hen had shafting on her feathers. All of my welsummer hens have shafting. Some of my hens are hatchery stock and some are not. Is this something I should be trying to breed out and if so, how?
