The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Sorry Everyone, my manners have been on the fritz the last couple of weeks with all the commotion around here, the loss of Odin just before Thanksgiving and then to top that off, a couple days ago I found one of my most beloved Blue Copper Marans roosters dead. It's been a little bit for me to digest and swallow, but this (BYCand it's members) have been the best place ever offering kind words and support. BYC ROCKS!!!!!

Thank you Risa!

Thank you Robin for the nice words on the improvement in my Wellies.......almost sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to get some Moose' boys growing up around here.

That is all right, Pinky, crap happens to the best of us. It seems like our favorite ones just kick the bucket and the ones that stayed alive are the ones we don't give much attention to.

Isn't that the truth.

Sorry to hear you lost another boy Kim. And as soon as my girls are laying again, you'll be getting those eggs! I can't wait to start hatching either!!!!!

Well, since all my girls are at some stage of molt and I don't have any wellie eggs, I thought I'd take some pictures of the wellies that look decent right now. I'm going to be really focusing on improving their yellow legs this year.

Cleo coming back from her molt - she's still growing in and from her crop, she really chowed down this morning.

My latest pullet, she's 18 1/2 weeks old:

And I had to take some shots of Moose - he's not quite done with his molt, still growing in especially in his hackles and tail. His comb flopping in the back is from frost bite damage last winter.

Hey Kim, you want to come help me integrate that 1 pullet into Moose's flock of 10? She was the only pullet that hatched and I'm not looking forward to integrating a bird by itself. Hopefully, Moose will help - he doesn't allow fighting among the hens, even if it's a new girl to the flock.

Do you have another pullet around the same age as her from any other breed that you have that you could intro her with so she has a buddy? I find intro's go much better with 2 or more.
You can take the other pullet away later when you have more birds to switch around so she isn't the next lone newbie in a coop.

I wish I did, but I don't. I always try to integrate 2 together, but the other 2 that hatched with her were cockerels and they are gone now. I should have done it while they were still here.
