How many are you looking for and are you wanting pullets right away? We have won't have chicks until NYD and then not sure what will hatch. We currently have 3 girls per roosters so 6 girls total.
I would like 5 more chicks, sexed pullets...... My original plan was for 25 hens and 3 roosters, but my order was screwed up and I ended up with so many roosters I was almost sorry I started this venture. I'm hoping my Delawares will hatch me some eggs come spring, I only have a couple girls that are known to go broody, so I'm thinking I will have to buy some sexed pullets as replacement layers unless of course I'm lucky with a broody or 2.
I still want a few wellies though for them marvelous dark speckled eggs. I have all Brown egg layers, everyone seems to have a shade of their own, which I love. My best layers appear to be my EE, and my Delawares they lay everyday regardless of the cold and no light conditions of Wisconsin winters, even my BR isn't laying like I expected her too, neither is my SL Wyandotte and BO hen. Maybe because they all started to lay this year or maybe they are just a tad lazy, not sure will see come spring after their first molt. Maybe They will settle into an egg a day, or at least every other day. I want to be able to sell eggs at some point and since the girls started laying in August from my first batch, then again 2 months later with the other, we are only keeping up to our need and a few extra dozen for the kids and the chickens themselves once in awhile.
I have 16 hens so I was hoping I would get at least a dozen everyday, but we been ranging 6 to 9 lately once I got 14....so I really can't complain a whole lot. So if you have extra's that would be good if not I will keep looking, and if I have too I think cackle or Ideal has Wellsummer chicks starting in Feb. TY Kim
I will keep you posted once we see what hatches out, we set 27 eggs with this round but I'm sure we will be setting some more
