The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Royce, pick an egg in the photo above and tell me which one you are 'breeding for'.

Bonnie, I understand better now what you're saying. If I had to pick and egg, as you say, I'd pick the 3 "smooth" looking eggs at the bottom left. But even those are different than my eggs because I know what you're talking about when you say they look like they've got lots of tiny dots all close together. With the eggs I'm getting now, you can't see any "dots" at all. They just look like a smooth coat of pain has been applied.

I've not posted any pics on the new BYC but am going to give it a try now...

Well now, that's wasn't so hard. Those are both the same set of eggs. Left without flash, right with flash.

God Bless,

Well the darkness appears to be what we are both going for and the hens have to 'paint' both of them.

My current hens are illusionists like 'Monet'!! edit oops I meant IMPRESSIONIST!! ha ha

One girl doesn't like spots and just likes to swirl it on like water color.....hmnn

Nice basket of eggs Royce!!

Also, I had the advantage of setting the eggs these hens are from and the 1/2 hatchery eggs were like the lighter poured clay terra cotta I was talking about up there, but the were also the really big eggs set in that hatch.

After all I set 14 dozen eggs last year and only got 18 birds from them or so, culling was not an option at that point. But I will be able to set the best color eggs this year and to put a 5 point comb roo over them with the right tail set (my roos vary).

I took 2 dozen eggs over to a new friend and she is actually hoping for a silky/wellie cross. Guess if I get any from the 39 eggs I set I will know to send them over there.

Cheers all,
Bonnie

They managed to sneak a little cockerel in on ya. First photo.....chick smack dab in front that is the only one facing foward.

Congratulations! Can't wait to see all the eggies you are going to get!

A few pics of my new week old Wellies. Ordered them from a hatchery ordered 15 received 19 and havent lost one yet. Can't wait to get those dark brown eggs! I've owned Wellies once before years ago and glad to have some again.

Thanks Kelly and RS! I can't wait to get them here. Will be putting them in with a ton of Barnevelder eggs...2 dozen to be exact and 3.5 dozen Marans eggs. Totally EGG-CITED!!!!!!!!!

Thank You again Kelly!

No that's not normal. Sounds like they may have been overcrowded and picking at each other. You can apply some Blu Kote or No pick to them to keep the others from picking at them until the feathers grow back in.
Ok thank you happy chooks! Glad to hear it's not some internal parasite or something else horrible. I will get that asap!
