The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Where did you get your chicks from?

If they have some of random specks/markings thru their face like if it was mottled (as it shown on the WCNA of that chick), there could be a "throwback" or some roo decided the hen was mighty fine LOL!

If you can, picture more of that chick.

Beesong~ Are these the very first chicks out of those Wellies you came and picked up from me last summer?
This would be the first time a chick like this from my birds has ever popped up......do you have any other breeds? I remember you had some RIR's when you came by....any chance of a mingling there?
RIR chicks would also have a chipmunky appearance.

:)

Yep -- they are the first chicks from those Wellies. I have a theory that will make you feel lots better! I have an Ameracauna that lays dark brown eggs, and I'm wondering if one of those got into the hatch batch. That would make this chick Wellie x Ameracauna, and I think that looks entirely possible. Out of curiosity, I'm going to hold on to this chick in my mixed-birds area and see what it turns in to. Photos to follow today, I promise.

Yep...kinda feeling better after hearing that. With Odin gone I would not have been able to track down where it came from if it came from here. :) They are gorgeous chickers and I am envious. You must be getting tons of beautiful eggs.

I have 3 strong Wellie chicks in the brooder from Happy Chooks. 2 cockerels and 1 pullet. I am anxious to see both boys grow up. I hope they look just like their daddy, Moose.

Hey if you come up this way again this summer to visit your friend and you have any extra Wellie chicks that are looking for a home .......I would be delighted to purchase a few from you. Keep that in the back of your mind my friend.

Besides the boys need to go for a swim in the pond again...don't they?

Pink:

OK, here are some pix of the chick in question. I am 99.999% sure that my brown-egg-laying Ameracauna flew over into the Wellies' nest boxes. It makes no sense that this wouldn't have shown up before for you or that I would have gotten only the one like it out of about 50 eggs. Pardon the pee in photo #2.......... And OF COURSE -- you bet I can pass some birds on to you!
