the Will They Hatch? thread

i got the rosecomb egg on the night of the 12th, and had in homeade bator for days till got little giant, then it was at constant temp and showing frogress, till temp flux with maybe power outages or surges etc. was due to stop putzing with on the second of this month think, and just wasnt developing or moving at all seemed since power fluxes, so just left in as size comparision for new batches recent, and just noticed it had accidentally been moved and when went to put back in line, it looked darker and heavier (i recently upped humidity and lowered temps, as closed main vents, for new batch), so just candled as contrast to see how far if any the others were coming along. im horrible at waiting now it rolled halfway across the bator around some other eggs... should i put it back in a padded egg cradle, or maybe was retarding growth (it now looks half mature, just only taking up half of bantam egg)?
did i hear wrong that true bantams hatch at 18 days alot, and usually not taking sometimes thirty of meat, or maybe was egg layers,?

Well I feel a little better. After eggtopsies, all but 2 of the unhatched were infertile. Of those 2, one quit probably around lockdown and the other pipped internally, but not into the aircell. Almost completely at the wrong end. And it was a roo, the ones that hatched this time were pullets.

Have things torn apart already, so I'm going to go ahead with the cleaning, calibrating, etc.

Mama broody and slightly older new siblings seem to have accepted them okay.

Do you mean four [4] days instead of "for days"?

I've read that bantams sometimes hatch early, though not always, and 21 days is the norm; but have never heard of any type of chicken needing thirty days to hatch. A chicken egg set Feb 12 should have went to lockdown on Mar 2, and hatched on Mar 5. Its your call as to when to give up on an egg......................................

Just updating, all my babies are doing well now. The vitamins seem to have done the trick. Tomorrow will be moving day, they are packed like sardines in the small brooder. It was fine for the 6 bantams but for 18 LF chickies it's way to squishy and the oldest are only 5days old! They are growing so fast!!!

I'll have pics tomorrow after I move them.

seriously, I've gone off the deep end. I candled last night. Took out 14 non-developers. Set 15 more!!!! Good news, my roos' fertility is up from 50% to around 2/3rds now. Soon I'll have no more space. God help me!

Checked on my cracked eggs today.
And there is some good news and bad news.
The first cracked one seems to be developing just fine (though from what I see it has no eyes yet)
The second one, I can't really spot anything, the day before yesterday it appeared fine, but today just looks like it gave up.

I don't see any blood rings though so I figured I will give it a couple more days and see if there is any improvement.
As for my double yolker, I think that only one yolk was fertile, since the other oneI can't even spot anymore, due to the rapid growth of the first one.
The one that is developing seems to be doing just wonderfully, it has eyes and it veins are spread across about half of the egg (that is a three inch long egg, so I am impressed.) Man i really hope it hatches.

Double yolkers are difficult, and if only one developes I would think that it would be an added challenge to success.

UPDATE!!! My BBS Orpington eggs that lost power for 3 hours, hatched last friday. I got 13 out of the 17 eggs with no problems. They are all doing so well, and are the cutest things ever...
