I used to shop at Wally world for groceries, until I moved to Texas, they have a Brookshire's out here (not in FL) and the bag boys HAVE to take your groceries to your car for you.

I ended up going to walmart once for whatever, and I was like - what are you waiting for, when the gal didn't put my groceries in my cart, then I remembered I was at Wal-mart! I guess I got spoiled!!!

Jeeze, I remember the little rolling things where you parked the car out front and picked up your bags as they rolled by...

I would kill for a Hobby Lobby. With me around, you can never have too many craft stores.

I work with a charity sewing group and we heard the rumors in the charity sewing circles about Walmart doing away with fabrics in ALL stores. My local store told me July, but they are still stocking fabric - just got in a lot of fall and christmas stuff, so obviously they aren't getting rid of it anytime too soon.

I have very mixed feelings about WalMart - on the one hand, I can save a lot of money on my sewing 'staples' there. On the other, when they came to town, they ran out almost all the other mom and pop/smaller chain stores that sold fabric. I can easily see how in small communitites that they are the ONLY place to find fabrics.

I LOVELOVELOVE hobby lobby! I do most of the fabric purchases for the group and I can go there and get great quality stuff for $2 a yard on their bargain bin. Much better quality than walmart's $2 selection! Bad news is Hobby Lobby is 'reconfiguring' their fabric section too - cutting down quite a bit on the amount they carry.

If you're interested, our group's website is: www.charlottethreadsoflove.org Any other Threads of Love chapter members out there??

Am I the only one who remembers the sign outside the Wally world store stating.. american made?? If emails mean anything then let's demand American made products or else go eslewhere! In mass we can make a difference. I had no idea this was happening. Come on people, where are is all our manufacturing going to ??? Can we change it? Is it too late???

Hey Zenbirder.....no offense taken. I agree, young people don't want to be botered with hand crafts. Or, they're too busy. Nowadays, both parents have to work, so that really cuts their "spare time" to minutes! What little time they have, it's spent on the kids...as it should be. Too bad, cuz it's a special gift that is hand made, with love.

Speaking of american made - don't want to change the subject, but have any of you guys noticed how much stuff you use every day comes from CHINA?
I have been seriously concerned with all the problems with china products, and started noticing where my stuff comes from - for the LIFE of me I can't find APPLE JUICE for my children that comes from anywhere OTHER than CHINA!
WHY do we get Apple juice from CHINA? Just one of the irritations I've had in the past few weeks!

Back to scheduled programming!

Yes, I have seen the same problem! Unfortunately the answer for me goes to Walmart, their "Great Value" brand is from concentrate from Argentina. I trust their agricultural practices a wee bit more than from China (not that I am against the Chinese, I have close relatives that are Chinese ancestry). The best bet is to buy locally if you can.

I'll check walmart - even the Welchs brand says "concentrate from China and Argentina" I might have to try find ORGANIC or something....

I must have a throw back to the good old days. My youngest and I crochet together all the time. We go to AC Moore any time they have someone teaching handcrafts. I signed her up for a 4-H crochet class this past summer. Turns out my daughter learned so much at those little morning visits to AC Moore that she taught the 4-H teacher a couple of new patterns.
