the solid duns that u used were they Wyandottes or some other breed??? im am very interested in the dun color but i would like LF... so if i crossed a dun laced bantam to a SLW LF this would be the best way to do this???

The duns were wyandottes. If you wanted solid duns in LF breed a dunlaced to a large black then keep the best duns and keep breeding to good blacks. If you want LF DL, breed a DL to a LF SLW and do the same thing. In a few generations you will have good LF dun/dun laced wyandottes.

Gorgeous birds everyone! Thanks for posting, what a great thread, I was excited to find it! You have to cry for us up here

we can only get hatchery birds, sweet cuddly BLR and SPW from Mcmurrays are what I have. It seems none of the BLRW breeders in the US want to do the health checks and paperwork to get the up here even though myself and others are willing to pay! Our birds are the paler gold not so red, and most are splash. I got 25 chicks from Mcm this 2009 and all were splash. So this is what I am starting with. If anyone wants to ship BLRW eggs up here I'd Love to hear from you! This are an awesome breed and variety and there is a ton of interest up here all across Canada! Sorry if the pic are a bit big

Those birds are beautiful and I have some that look just like them or close. Thanks for sharing the pics and this thread is wonderful

Very nice skeffling they look alot like mine. How is everyone hens laying? It's been single digits here and they seem to be laying fairly well for me. Except my blr they don't lay quite as well. How many roosters do you keep for each color you have. Thanks Mike

Thanks I love them! Ours are laying pretty well. No additional light, thanks to our feather pecking EEs. I figure I'd rather have less eggs from short days than lack of feathers on my girls. It's been cold here but it doesn't seem to bother them! I have three SP and 3 BLR. Impossible to get replacements here without import so we keep lots of spares! There's only only one roo in at a time!

Sounds kinda like me. I do use a 40 watt bulb in the winter. Actually I have 4 blr roo at this time two are none related to mine. Also have a black and a blue for my blues. And one lonely columbian that is real nice going to pic up a few hens for him from a guy downstate from me. What does SP stand for? Is it Splash? Mike
