The Wyandotte Thread

Pics
Here's a few pics of some of my Wyandotte bantams. I'm not the best with a camera and it was getting dark. I had to use a light and it washed out the color on some. I'll try to get better pics at a later date.

I have heard that before, i just did not know how true it was so i guess it is not a bad idea to keep the single comb gene around in my flock. thank yall so much for all of your knowledge

Gosh, when I started the dunlaced project no one had ever even heard of dun. Now that I sold all of my dun laced and spread their eggs around the country, I see them all over and I often wonder if the dun laced I see are decendants of my birds.

Yes, mine are! I bought my hatching eggs from you. I also have a gorgeous blue sumatra hen from one of your eggs.

I am still learning the genetics of wyandottes. I have around 30 blr from Rebecca and Jerry Foley (aka Mrs. Turbo). What is the difference between a splash blr with light coloring and a dunlaced wyandotte. Splash x splash will breed true, right? I am very intrigued. Do the dunlaced lack the blue gene?

Colby

Dun and blue work the same way, both diluters of black. Dun is more brown than blue. The dunlaced I made come from solid duns and silver laced then lots of selective breeding and back crossing. In my experience dun is dominant over blue. Dun laced red could be done pretty easily by using a BLR roo over DL hens, get the sexlinks and go from there. Or even a black laced red from a BLR mated with dunlaced could be done.
