Happy Easter all! Just joined this thread, had chickens 2 years now. I got 3 GLW my first year, one rooster that went bad, a straight comb hen that died and still have the remaining GLW roo as my main flock roo. He's a good boy. I have a mixed flock of 20 for laying. I got bantams from the TSC mix this year. The one is developing into a BLRW bantam roo. I am due to get SLW LF next week. I'm trying to learn chicken genetics, so was wondering what I might get if I crossed the BLRW bantam roo with the SLW LF? Color and size? Here is the boy "Chunk".

Quote: You have it pretty good. The pullets would be blue and black laced red looking but as brassy as that little roo is not sure you could still sex them. The roos would have the silver and would be blue and black but would also be brassy.
I will tell you too that I have read some that bantam genes are SEX LINKED too so all your roos could be bantam and you pullets might be on the larger side.
I would not make that cross..... for lost of reasons.... first you bantam roo might not be the best mates for LF hens. Second his color is off and just not the best cross.

you'd be better off finding a gold laced bantam to use him with. he's not red enough to qualify for a blue laced red. he's more a blue laced gold IMO. if he's even laced, I can't tell from the pic. personally though I wouldn't use him from breeding at all. just get the right ones to go with each other.
Hi,
I am new to the Wyandotte thread & would appreciate some help. I am trying to hatch a few bantam chocolate Wyandottes. I set 9 eggs out of which 5 are going into lockdown tonight. My questions are:
1. Do Bantam Wyandottes typically hatch closer to day 20 or 21
2. Are they feather sexible at birth?
3. If not, is there any other way to sex them in the first few days?
I promised my wife I will only keep two so want to keep a pullet and cockerel.
Thanks for all your help.
JB
Yes my seller said that they were choc on choc and coming from the Greenfire farms line. So how will I color sex them? I am a novice to Wyandottes and hatching. My bantams hatch at the same time as my LF. FEATHER SEXABLE no... but choc is sex linked and you should be able to sex them by color. They are Choc to Choc right?
Quote: Well I don't really know as I have yet to hatch just choc to choc. I think the roos are darker and the pullets are lighter choc. You might want to search for the sexlink choc and see if you can find some pics of choc chicks and see how they are sexed. I had choc x split and I didn't hatch too many to make a comparison.
Thanks. I will look for that!Well I don't really know as I have yet to hatch just choc to choc. I think the roos are darker and the pullets are lighter choc.
