The Wyandotte Thread

rnorris1234,

Your lovely BRLs are a bit too gold. Most breeders from what I read are working toward BRLs with more vibrant, richer red in them. For an example see some of the earlier posts on this chain. Also check out the website for Pauls Poultry farm. He has some very lovely pictures of his birds reflecting the trend for more richer coloring in the BRLs.

Tab's chicken obsession :

Has anyone ever tried breeding blue laced silver? I was contemplating what the different wyandotte mixes would look like and was just curious.

I hatched somes eggs from my hatchery Blue Wyandotte roo x Silver Laced Wyandotte hatchery hen and got a blue silver laced rooster and a blue red/gold laced pullet. How I got the blue red/gold laced pullet is a mystery to me!

I was going try to breed more blue silver laced as a project but I didn't have enough room.
Here is a picture of the rooster and pullet

The chicken calculator says if I mix my Silver Laced Male with a Blue laced red female I would get;

Pullets:
blue patterned cream laced
Ratio = 1/4 = 25%

black patterned cream laced
Ratio = 1/4 = 25%

Cockerels:
blue patterned yellow/golden laced
Ratio = 1/4 = 25%

black patterned yellow/golden laced
Ratio = 1/4 = 25%

I'm done with this as some are taking it personnal. It's not. Again, as I look at the silver laced on page 2 of this thread, I ask myself do mine show this form of tail. My answer is NO. I've yet to see any that do in the partridge color. They have a "rounded tail" similiar (not the same, similiar) to a cochin rooster. It's not the "tee pee" as some want to call it--yes I've seen hens with this tail but not the roosters.

Some don't agree, fine. I'm done. Look at page 2, it's obvious.

To the owner of those silver laced on page 2, YES, I'm ENVIOUS.......

No I am not taking it personal....I know its hard to tell in just reading my words in a forum and not hearing the tone in my voice, I am very capable of discussing an opposing view with out getting upset or personal about it.

I think you are right we need to drop it and agree to disagree....your not going to change your mind and I am tired from attending 4 shows, 4 weekends in a row.

My daughter has a lovely golden laced wyandotte pullet that needs some friends. I have been looking online and via Poultry Press and have not been able to find any GLW breeders in California, and precious few anywhere. In addition to looking at the physical standard, we are especially interested in nice temperaments. She shows in 4H and may also try some local open shows.

Any leads, California or will ship to California, appreciated.

We schedule next year's vacation at work in December. Will next year's show dates be available by then? I want to be able to go to the Ohio shows. Miss you guys!

Pah! I've been looking for good GL for a year now. I'm going to call Stromberg's hatchery next week and order some of the breeder's chicks. They're from Duane Urch. I think there is a 10 chick max so I will probably order some of his black wyandottes and 5 EEs from the hatchery stock. In the meantime, I buy all the "black" blr wyandottes the Turbos (aka www.foleyswaterfowl.com) will sell me. I know they're not really gl and would never sell them as such, but the type is spectacular.

Look what I ran across today......not sure the quality because there are no pictures, but he does show birds and I think he will be at Columbus.
