The Wyandotte Thread

Elinor's chicks :

For Mrs. Turbo: (since you are not far from me)

What is the temperment of the bantam Wyandotte like? I know each chicken can be differrent, but I've heard they are calm and friendly, and I've also heard they are mean and peck a lot. That last comment came from a man at the Frankfort show last fall with black bantam Wyandottes he was helping his son with - I hope it wasn't Mr. Turbo!!!!!

I've posted elsewhere that I live in town, can't have roosters, have one bantam hen now (buff Brahma) and could have one or two more, tops. It is SO difficult to get someone to sell a one pullet. I got some nice responses from folks on another breed thread, but when I said I was interested in what they had, got no follow up.

I know you folks show.....do you ever bring birds with you to sell? I'm not looking for a show bird, just a sound girl for a pet, who will give me some eggs too.

might have been Mr. Turbo. Was he helping a 13 year old? Some of the bantam wyandotte roosters can get meant, but we are trying to breed that trait out of them. The hens are very sweet so you wouldn't have to worry about that. If you are just looking for a pet and not a show bird we might be able to help you out. We do bring extra birds with us when we have them. Email us close to a show and we will see what we have for you.

The meanest ones we had were the Columbian Wyandotte bantam roosters. the partridge and silver penciled are very laid back and for the most part the blacks are too, but there are always bad apples in the bunch.

The lady you referred to me for eggs came yesterday and bought all my good birds including that nice splash rooster. She's associated with arabian equine rescue so the blr gang will have the plush life. I'm trying to clean house to make room for the black wyandotte chicks coming in this year.

That splash rooster was really nice too. You really like those blackWyandottes huh....guess they are kind of pretty

The prettiest thing in the world...a broody hen. She is so fluffy and poofy...we can't help but love her even more. I didn't think a hen could fill a dog crate that would fit a small-medium sized dog! She is such a sweet hen (Amber, our BLR Foley girl). We tried to candle a few eggs, but we need a better light. Have to try again in a few days. We're one day 3. The kids are excited to see the whole process.

This photo was when we first got her-she's filled out even more now.

She is a really cool bird-that's why we want more! She loves to be held by the kids. Too bad she's in love with our SLW roo! We didn't want mixed colored birds, but for a first little brood, it should be ok(we'll get more eggs)...wonder if that would make lavendars?

No showing for me, just pets and a few eggs. Thanks! That sounds great! Now how can I find out where the shows are? Ha-ha. No really, I guess there is a national poultry association that will have a list on line somewhere. A little black hen......I can hardly wait!
