The Wyandotte Thread

I dont think Jesse Paul is raising or selling birds anymore, at least that is the last I heard about him. As for someone else to buy Wyandotte LF eggs and chicks from, contact Duane Urch from Minnesota. He has a great variety of LF Wyandottes and many other breeds as well.

Jim,
I dont know if I am going to have any spare males this fall or not. I have two nice cock birds I know I will breed from but havent yet decided if I like any of the young ones yet. Still waiting for them to fill out to the point where I will decide.
Guess everyone has more up to date information about Jerry than I do. I havent talked to him in a few weeks but I did know he was wanting to cut back quite a bit. This is a great hobby but it can dominate your life if you let it. I speak from experience, moderation in all things...including chickens is a good thing. I have been the guy that had over 150 breeders and hatched over 600 birds etc......it starts to take the joy out of what you love by the tedium of the everyday grind.
Just my two cents, thus endeth the lesson today. :)

Hang on to the SP bantams....I have been raising them for 17 years and they are as rare a variety as you can find when it comes to Wyandottes, especially good ones...which those will be when they grow up.

Hey Donna,

I'm hankerin for large fowl silver pencileds like no one's business, but might harass ya for some bantams perhaps down the road. Silver Penciled pattern I love more than even the birchen pattern and you know how I love my birchens! The penciling reminds me of the old tweed suits from the 20's and 30's.

Best SP LF can be had from Duane Urch, they are undersized compared to the big SL and Whites but look better than anything else out there.

haha I see...you were already plotting eh? haha
I still feel like I have a long way to go with my Marans, but think that I'm doing pretty good at eliminating issues and bringing out the characteristics I want, but I'll still always love my Wyandottes. I don't know life without them really, been around them since before I could walk.

Yeah, I was gonna do an order this last spring for SP from him, but ended up losing track of time and missed the window of opportunity when some major health issues with my dad came up. I'm hoping if things settle down, to see what I can do about an order.

I had heard a rumor Duane was getting out of selling...is there any validity to that? I thought if he was, I could always drive up to pick up birds if he was selling out. Its exactly 5 hours from me as I drove through Owatonna all the time when I was in college in Mpls.
