The Wyandotte Thread

My first Wyandottes were hatchery and a breeder reject roo, i absolutely loved them, even if they weren't correct! my roo looked a lot like yours, long tail and lumpy comb with ugly pasty legs, lol. But they're were soo sweet, they're the reason why I still have and love my 'Dottes!

Been a while since I was on so I was just heading out to get some new pictures of my girls & roo. :)
I must confess that I liked your comment....I often think of what it would be like if we treated our children or humans for that matter, the same way we treat "heritage quality' chickens...that constant quest for perfection....keeping those with certain traits...and culling those with negative traits.

They look great!
I got a few half decent pictures of the birds today. It's pretty hot here so no one really wanted to cooperate, even when i tried to bribe them with treats.

The big guy, he's the only Roo I have now.

My oh-so-sweet Splash hen. She's such a lover, she pecks my leg until I pick her up when I'm out in the coop.

I've got 2 Blue hens as well but one didn't want pictures taken & the other is being an evil broody.

And here's my little Buff Laced girl. I just Adore her!

jtabor1387 I really like your birds. I see your wyandottes pick out all the corn from their food like mine lol. I really like the color of your partridge boy and his chest shape. Is your Wyandotte hen (2nd picture) a dun color?[/quoteThanks for the kind words, and yes the hen is dun laced, with real good lacing, she is still young but I really like her. I have 5 or 6 other dun laced birds I hatched out, to try and get a good rooster. Ill try to get some better pics of her.

Thanks Peaky, the roo is from your eggs, he's calmed down a lot since my other rooster left. and my girls have finally warmed up to him! I'm excited for some lovely babies from him & my girls. I have one growing out but not sure if it's his or not, pretty chunky already though!

got my chicks today. 1 SLW male and 2 females. these chicks are SO cute! also got 4 St run blue laced red, but im fully expecting splash just by their coloring (and because they are from MM hatchery), which is pretty dull. but still looking forward to watching them all grow!

are these guys able to be feather sexed? not sure if the BLR are sold straight run because they arent able to be feather sexed or if they just dont do it for them...

Looks like your BLR are all Splashes.

Dracoe Congratulations on your recent show titles. Yes, heat does affect the fertility of Wyandotte. When temperatures reach 90 degrees, fertility goes to 10 % with my Columbian rooster. I break up my breed pens for both Wyandotte and Cochin in late June and don't breed again until late fall for a possible late hatch. The actual breeding pens are set in late December with the first hatch in late January.

There were some lovely birds posted this week!

I'm culling down on my GLW cockerels. I'm actually thinking of culling all of them. I have never had such mean birds in my life. WOW!!! They don't fight one on one. They gang fight. Had to kick all 5 cockerels off my very big LB this morning. Really fustrating me. I think they are so pretty. But don't know if they are going to make it.
