The Wyandotte Thread

I'm culling down on my GLW cockerels. I'm actually thinking of culling all of them. I have never had such mean birds in my life. WOW!!! They don't fight one on one. They gang fight. Had to kick all 5 cockerels off my very big LB this morning. Really fustrating me. I think they are so pretty. But don't know if they are going to make it.
so keep the girls for eggs and eat the roos. easy solution.

I have no pullets. I think maybe one might be. Bought what I think are 3 SLW chicks. 2-4 week old to breed with my GLW. But again just not sure if the cockerels will make it.Maybe if I get them down to 2, they can gang fight.

Wanted to share another pic of black Wyandotte I got from Nanakat. I need to take pic of her with good camera to capture her beautiful beetle sheen. When I get my big coop and run finished I want to get more dottes from Nanakat. I'm hooked on them.

We are having a streak of lovely weather and rain not enjoyed for several years! The flocks are loving it and the huge crop of grasshoppers this year.
Here are a few pictures from the keeper pens ranging from January to late April hatches. I culled heavy this year and sold or put in the freezer any birds not keeping from the breeder pens. There is still 100 chicks hatched May and June to sort when they reach 12 - 16 weeks of age.

Cockerels include Columbian, Blue Columbian and Birchen

Pullets(some beginning to lay) include Columbian, Blue Columbian, Blue and Birchen

In the keeper pen, there are also a few Cochin and selected replacements for the layer pen mixed in with the breeders..
