The Wyandotte Thread

Hi everyone,
I am new here and have two separated breeds that have become a real passion......Wyandotttes and Silkies. Both totally different, tho just as interesting as each other. Breathing a sigh of relief this am after on of my beautiful white Wyandotte roos got in a serious altercation with another rooster yesterday and was left with his gorgeous neck silk all pink from blood. He had had his rosé comb slashed by the spurs on the other rooster. Luckily he is showing no signs of distress today other than. "Black" Comb!!! glad im not showing them. The other is now in pound in a small chick run. He will be finding a new home ASAP. No fighting cocks for this farm!

Some more pics of our little rib lovers....

Sorry, here's some mo......

Note that the hose is always out to blast poop off the patio.

All for now...thanks for lookin'..........

I have a quick question for everyone. I remember way back we were talking about fertility and the rose comb (RR and Rr) dominance. I just found out one of my roos is a Rr after crossing him with with a black orpington and the chick coming out with a single comb. I remember something being said about the Rr but I can't remember if it was it means better fertility or something completely different. Anybody else remember any details about this? Thanks!

Yes Rr cocks have better fertility than HZ RR combed males. There are tons and tons of studies done on the rose comb and some even are on Wyandottes.

This is my SLW he or she has around 8 weeks old. Do you think it's a cock or a pullet? And can I known if my chik has standard default?

Thanks
