If they aren't laying yet...then the one in the picture is male. The comb and wattles are already a nice bright red. The females do not get much red until right when they start to lay.

Someone was showing me one of their wyandottes and he has a split breast. I know this is a defect but how severe? Is it something they can breed out if paired with good females or is it a strictly cull offense like cross beak?

If you look a bird with split breast you will see a line down the middle that is not filled out. Kinda like cleavage......
Does it affect their health or just appearance? I think mine might have that.
Can you show us a pic of a blue laced silver vs a silver laced at hatch? Can you tell them apart that young or do you have to wait till they feather in?
