The Wyandotte Thread

I just put in my order at the feedstore for wyandottes. I will be getting 5 silver laced, 5 golden laced, 5 blues and 10- bluelaced reds. I am sure they will just be hatchery quality but it is a start. I finally settled on this breed because they are so pretty. It was a very hard decision. May 4th is the day they arrive. I can hardly wait.

Does anyone here have a picture of what a rooster would look like when it is Gold Laced - carrying Silver? The genetics calculators show the birds to be Yellow with Black Lacing. But that's theoretical. I'm wondering what an actual Gold Laced bird looks like when it is split for Silver.

Anyone, anyone?

Gotcha. Thanks for that! I heart the LFs and Wyandottes as a whole. Does anyone know or breed Splash BLRW or Partridge breeds? They are just such beautiful birds

I raise the splash blr- or did until the weasel killed my 2 roosters. now looking for a replacement and I have crossed in a white for better type.

Hey Hoppy do you have any chicks hatched out yet from that cross yet?...if you do can you post some pictures once they get feathered out..I know what the chicken calculator says you will get is sometimes different than what you really get or you can PM me some pics.

I had someone else do a hatch for me
they just hatched so I will send pictures as they are grown but they are white with black marks on the back and browns
so assuming the browns are either a gold laced or a blr. I have not seen them yet, I pick them up tomorrow.

Rudy, I'm sure, would be happy to have them!
I'll be building brooder boxes and fixing my incubator this weekend. I need to be able to supply the demand I'm hoping I'll have for Crossroads.

I've never really paid much attention to chicken colors, etc. I have some 2 year old SLW and recently saw an ad on Craiglist for some BLRW eggs for hatching and the pictures shown were so pretty that I decided to try and hatch some. I have 8 chicks that are about 4 weeks old. 5 of my chicks have steel gray coloring and 3 are what I would call silver. I noticed a comment in another thread about having Splash BLRW. Are my silver chicks considered a different color? Are they splash? What color is the most desirable? If I keep a rooster should he be dark or silver? I'm sure these are stupid questions, but I am curious what color is consider the BLRW.

THis is a splash hen

blrw chicks are born looking like chipmunks with stripes.. blue chicks are dark brown with a lighter beige down. Splash chicks are more of a lighter brown with a more yellowish down.

There should not be any silver or steel grey color. It sounds like your chicks are slw, not blrws.
