Their first night!

The girls (my 6 week old RIR) are going to spend their first night in the coop tonight. Will I sleep a wink?

Haha, I'm the same way! I put my girls out in the coop for the first time a couple weeks ago and it probably would of made more sense for me to just sleep out there with them instead of wasting all that time walking back and forth from the house to check on them.

I didn't brood my chicks in the house, they were brooded in an outbuilding. Still, there somehing my very wise husband pointed out to me when my chicks were babies.
By going into the outbuilding to check on them a zillion times at night, I was letting in a cool draft each time. He solved that by arranging me a step under the outbuilding window so I could check on them without "fanning the door". If you don't have a window in your coop, best to only open the door when absolutely necessary, instead of on the hour, every hour.

I'm going to have to put ours out for their first night on a Friday. That way I'll at least have Sunday to recover from no sleep!
