I have a Daisy and a Clara as well. I really wanted to name one "Hazel" but a friend just named her baby that, so it seemed wrong. We had a Cuckoo Maran, Jessie Ruth, who died on August 16.

Sorry to hear about Jessie Ruth. Did you find out what caused her death? My Lucy was 5 months old. I had a necropsy done as I wanted to know if it was something my other girls could catch. Luckily it was just something with her. Report states that one of the bacterias in her went awry and caused issues with her intestines. That caused her to go septic and caused her death. I found her in the morning laying on the coop floor. She never showed any signs of being ill. Ate well, pooped well, was a happy girl.

We have Joy (named by my daughter), Cookie (named by my son) and Quigley (named by my husband and me).

However, their full names are:

Joy Ruby Brownie, Cookie Horncorn Pearfruit, and Quigley Quiggles Flan.

As a group referred to as the postulates, what nuns are called before they take their vows, and their coop is the convent. No roosters here.

I am certain it was the horrendous heat wave that we had in August. 2 weeks with temperatures over 100, plus she had been just a little "off" since she was a chick.

The heat surely can take a toll on the girlies. I live in Scottsdale, AZ and it was triple digits until just recently. It is 75 right now! Yeah, the girls love it. This was the girls first summer and DH installed a wall unit a/c. It took them a while to figure out that it was cooler in the coop. Eventually when they got too hot in their shady spot, they would all hang out in the coop.

This coop above me is by far the best one I have ever seen. My boyfriend may kill me now though because I want to redo ours to look like an actual bedroom for our girls. This may be a Spring time project but this is pretty much exactly how ive seen our coop in my head. Thank you for an actual picture to use as my model.
