Therapy or Educational Chickens?

Good luck to you. What a great idea. We KNOW that chickens are great therapy.

I think pre-schools would be a good place to visit. I think people who are not into chickens have a hard time warming up to the idea, but whenever people meet my chickens, they always fall in love. So it might be a hard sell at first, but pre-schoolers are always into touching animals.

You might want to check out Delta Society. It is one of the oldest therapy animal organizations in the country. The website is www.deltasociety.org. They publish an excellent home study guide, I believe there are instructors and evaluators in your area. Their contact info will be on the website. When I had 2 of my Labs evaluated last November there was a section on the vet health screening form for birds. I have found over the past 12 years that I have volunteered with my dogs and rabbits being able to say the animals have been been tested to be safe, predictable, clear of transferable diseases, plus have liability insurance as part of their Delta Society registration opens up a lot of facility doors. It has been an amazing experience volunteering with therapy animals.
