. Maybe your could let Blondie sleep in the house with you guys tonight until you get her more flockmates? BO's are so sweet I bet if you found her some chicks she would be good to them. Just a thought.

It is very sad i am so sorry - soemtimes you luck out sometimes you dont. The thing is you learned and it wont happen again. And old time chicken person once said to me - " Where there is livestock - there will be dead stock" Sadly
Very sorry
I have a momma cochin with two young babies - saw the mama inside hunched down when i shut things up - assumed that the chicks were under her. Nope when i went out to open up two chicks - who mush ave been hiding quite somewhere were running around cheeping looking for her!@ Sometimes they make it when we make mistakes. I now put my hand under to make sure they are there at night!

I didn't know how many predators were visiting my coop or how often until I set up a trail cam. I was shocked, and glad I secured the coop well:

The day I found my ducklings had been killed I cried almost nonstop and I'm not normally like that. I was as upset as if one of my dogs had died, never imagined one could get so attached to something like ducks and chickens. Then to make matters worse 3 days later a weasel got into my run/coop and killed 2 of my chickens. I sympathize with you and your lone survivor, poor lonely girl...best thing to do is get more chickies to take your mind off your loss!

I'm so sorry, Steve. Like everyone said, we all make mistakes. I know it hurts like hell and you feel horrible. I hope getting your little survivor some new friends will help you all feel better. My neighbor uses the carcasses to set traps for the predators - if you have any of those humane cage traps you can catch the buggers and confirm what they are (more than likely coons) and then dispose of them as you see fit (my neighbor shoots 'em).

Steve..........it is sad you lost your birds. But given the circumstancesI wouldn't know who else to blame. If it was your responsibility to lock um up, then it falls on you. These post saying it's not your fault just flabergast me. But the one post that said beat yourself up for 2 days then get over it and go on is pretty spot on. We all do make mistakes but it seems like each time we do our hens lose their lives. I left my coop access door open one night. When I saw that the next morning I got a cold sweat. I could have killed all my chickens. And make no mistake it would have been on me. Nobody else handle the chickens but me.

Now we learn from what we did and move on. Believe me I double check the coop, nest and the door before I walk away. These chickens are getting me attached to um. I have to look after them, them look to me to protect them. Good luck with the new hens. You gotta get some more.

That news is sad.
