theres allways a bully.. Updated

If Atilla's not bullying the other chick excessively right now I'd leave em together and switch to the red light asap. I PMed you.

I had my sister go on her lunch and buy a red lamp and a 25 pound bag of the chick starter the kind that has the vitamins and all that in it so I am crossing my fingers that everyone is ok when i get home , they will have been alone for 6 hours and I am nervous .
I feel a bit better about reds chances though because, I talked to the feed store and when I told them what happend with the chicks she said alot of there barred rock had died and they called the hatchery and were told there was a problem with the brooder or something along those lines and they are giveing them new ones she says I can pick a new chick and that more then likely the Atilla picked on the other one cause she was already ill and all. So red and her should be fine /crossing fingers..
Should i get a diffrent breed then though scince all there barred rocks are dying? and what can i look for in attilla incase she is one of the sick ones too.
And if they let me pick any breed to get what one will go best with my RIR and BR <saposeing she makes it> there kinda a small operation so they dont have a huge range or many rare but mostly Im jsut looking for a fairly docile friendly bird that lays well and I know they have silkies but I dont know what exactly that is and they ahve black somethings RIR BR and gold sexlinks .

Also what do you guys do I mean I have been on this sight for hours a day science I discoverd it , do you send out subliminal messages or what lol:lol:

I think a black sexlink or Black Australorp would be a good addition to go with what you have. They are both good layers, if that makes any difference to you.

(My little barred rock was the smallest chick when I got her, but she was the most outgoing, too!)

Gabrielle, if they have sex links that might be a good choice for you. They lay eggs very well and from everything I've read they usually grow up to be sweet, friendly chickens.

BUT.......... the chick gods must be mad at me beacuse as soon as I got them home and was doing a quick check befor I put them in with the others I noticed the bany had what looked like poo on his butt ok so I go to wipe it off and it dosnt come off but his poor bum has a speck of blood on it

He has a black <tell me they have black skin> swollen puffy bum poor guy.
I called the store imedently but they have already gone for the night .

what is wrong with his bum do you think and do you think he will be ok Atilla pecks at him a bit but dosnt seem exscessive and she pecks at everyone .
There In a dark room right now with the new red bulb and there food dish full of the new good feed.
I dont want to lose another chick it breaks my hart.

The poo stuck on his bum is called pasty butt. He/she won't like it but you can take a warm wet washcloth and hold it against the dry poo for a few minutes to soften it and then carefully pull it off. You just need to be sure you keep a check on it and don't let his vent get covered with it or he won't be able to poop.
The other chicks they had were probably black jersey giants. They are sweet things too.

This has been one joy after another, huh?
From what I have heard, there can be an umbilical "stub" left that has to heal up. If it is not "pasty butt" you probably are fine. How does the chicky look as far as activity, easting, etc...?
Also, do they have a place to get away from the light if they need to cool off?
I am sure things will settle down, and they will become a happy flock soon....

I need to know what temp they need exaclty I have been getting conflicting stuff up to 100 and as low as 90 right now its staying about 92-94 and they dont have a lot of room to get cool I am looking for a new set up for them at the moment actually.
The wee silkie chick is ok he is walking around and pecking at food , he dosnt seem overly vigerous but he dosnt seem lethargic ether.
I could shoot the feed store 2 hand picked sick chicks in a row , I mean with large scale operations and with shiping there can be exscuses but with a place holding 100 maybe 150 chicks and a staff or like 6 you would think they would pay closer atention.
