So I have 3-4 week old chicks that are supposed to be barred rocks. I specifically bought from this breeder because I wanted barred rocks. But now, at 4 weeks old they are solid black with just white tips on their wings. These are the most recent pictures I have (sorry, we just got over that snowstorm here in Texas) I'll get better ones tomorrow. But, these arent barred rocks, are they?

I zoomed in so you can see the white tips.

I don't know when BR chicks get their barring, or adult feathering. I believe they hatch out solid black, though. I wouldn't write these off just yet until you hear from someone familiar with the breed. Now I'm curious, as I'm considering these for my next breed!

Yes, google pics of barred rock chicks. They look like that. Black with a white patch. Theirstripes come in later

I kept thinking that also but then started googling it and at 4 weeks the ones I saw had either barring or spotting. Not solid back. I'll keep these ones no matter what, already have them used to me holding them and inspecting them. Hopefully I'm wrong. When I looked up white tipped black chicks black australorps kept popping up and that's how mine look. We'll see

Mine were solid black as day old chicks. They're now either 4 weeks or close to 4 weeks. I figured they'd have some barring going on since they're fuzz is gone and they're now feathering out.

Yep. That's what I thought. Mine are solid black except for the white on their wing tips. 😭
Oh man, you're right! I had forgotten, my Lorps had the white wingtips in a juvenile phase and I thought it was odd, but it went away in a later molt. You've got Australorps, pretty sure. BTW, they have great personalities and I love 'em.
