THESE CHICKS!!! I CANT SLEEP!! THEY WONT LET ME!!!

Without heat they will get chilled. They need the heat source from that red light. Put the chicks in another room. Make sure they have plenty of food and water available. They will settle down and get quiet when all their needs have been met.

I agree with the blanket idea. that is what I do with mine. it insulates them and keeps them warmer, and they like the darkness. plus it is yet another layer they have to get through if they're gonna try to escape.

I have 3 in our walk in closet. The light doesn't bother me, but the go through periods of Peeping and Chirping. I just pretend it's May and about 68 degree's outside and the birds are chirping in the trees

Haa Haa - Welcome to motherhood.

Methinks AJ is right - they're telling you something. Do you have a thermometer in your brooder? Maybe it's not warm enough in there.

For the sleeping issue, try a different heat source. If the red light bothers you, get a ceramic heat emitter from the pet store - reptile section. Heat without light. They're spendy, but your well being is worth it.

Good luck!

MARLA--that is a lovely description!! I've never tried singing to my chicks--with my voice it might have the opposite effect!!! WELCOME!!--This is a wonderful site, full of great people! I kept my chicks in their brooder in my hallway so everyone was kept awake except me because I'm a bit deaf!!!He-HE!!!!!!!!--In the end I used a blanket over it too.

Marla, that's really cool advice.

Don't worry; we're not all experts. Rather, we spend a lot of time learning together, and the suggestions of new members are always welcome. "22,000 heads are better than one," or something like that.

Glad to have you here and

Marla - I'm glad you piped up. I'll be getting my first chicks next week and I love the idea of singing to them. I already have silly songs for the dogs; why not the chicks too?
