These girls baffle me

Hi Lea, thank you for reply, i sent it, because you done a great job, and
if you done all that, i am sure you will adjust it, to what they need. Why waste
money, when you already have a solid coop. Of course it is your choice, i am sure
you will make the right one. Can tell, you love your girls, and you will do the best
for them. Good luck. :love

Thank you all for your help
It looks like my home made efforts are no good
I’m thinking of buying this and propping or off the floor
What’s your thoughts pleaseView attachment 1839564
Sorry to be negative, but it has several problems.

-No (or very little) ventilation
-"roosts" are on the floor. Your nest boxes are gonna be full of poop. And your chickens will probably be uneasy sleeping on the floor.

I agree that you'd be much better off modifying what you've already built.

Hi
You can just about see the perch just inside the entrance
It’s not on the floor is is about 10 inches off the floor and they have plenty of headroom to
Underneath the perch is a pull out tray so I can clean easy and the nesting box is at the far end of the coop with the two love hearts cut out
Which is separate to where they sleep
So I don’t think that is the problem

I think its absolutely stunning the house I can only wish I could make something like that
Unfortunately I also believe it's the size of the house but how did u do the heart shapes?
What u could do is take that smaller house out and put a bigger one in and use it as chick brooder if u only keep small numbers as its definitely to nice to het ride off

I was saying the roosts are on the floor in that prefab coop. Not the one you built. You did a lovely job.

To be honest, your coop is larger by a darned sight than the coop our next door neighbors have for their 3 chickens. As their flock got larger, they added a second coop, but still a pretty small one. But their white chickens decided they'd rather fly up into the trees at night. When we decided to get ourselves some chickens, we decided to go with a pre-fab coop. My husband is handy, but if I'd had to wait for him to put something together, we'd be lucky to have chickens by the end of the year!

Our coop is very similar to the second pre-fab you have pictured, though it's up on "stilts" Ah, here it is:
Completed coop sized.jpg

Allegedly, it's for 6 to 8 chickens (yeah, right), but it works perfectly well for our two. And I'm still hoping to attract the neighborhood "free range" chicken to join our flock. (Long story - another time.)

I take it you're in the UK. We're in France, and I'm finding that our predator situation is considerably different from what many of the US folk are facing. Plus, the attitudes toward keeping chickens (or any sort of animal) are different.

We started out by putting the new chickens in the coop at night (right around sundown) and letting them out first thing in the morning. By their 4th or 5th day here, they went into the coop when I showed up ("to tuck them in") and now it's just a matter of herding them toward the door as it's starting to get dark. The neighbor next door found that his flock just head for the coop on their own, so they don't bother opening and closing the door anymore. It may just be a matter of putting them in the coop at night for a few consecutive days. I think you've built a lovely coop - just give them a chance to get used to it.

The hearts cut outs are cute.....the problem here is that the coop is not big enough, especially the width. I'm guessing that it's about 14-16" x 48"?
Please correct me if my measurement guesses are in correct.
That's not enough space for two bird to pass each other, they don't do single file very well.
Is that perch running lengthwise....very close to the wall?
Roost need to be 12" away from walls for comfort.
The fact that your other bird(s) chose the ladder over the coop tells a tale.

The other issue is you had1 bird in there, then added 2 more.
I'm sure there's is some territoriality issues going on also.

hi the old bird has always been on the ladder
The house I made is new for the new chickens
The size is 51 inch by 21 inch
There is enough room to pass
As I made a little ramp to get to the internal nesting box

Do you have any internal pictures? I think your coop is lovely [& sturdy as well] but would agree that space & ventilation could be an issue. If you are as handy as it seems you are a few adjustments will probably solve the issue. The other thing that comes to mind is, if your older hen was roosting outside your new ones have probably taken their cue from her & copied her roosting habits.
