Out of all my Silkies, PomPom (on the GIF) does it the most but she's the boss and the most greedy. She will attempt to scoff all the treats before the others and then ends up doing this.

ah my silkie does it a lot too but I recon that’s because I feed her separately so that the others don’t grab onto her comb(or where the comb is on a chicken) and hurt her

Not necessarily. It sort of depends on cause, but if it is treatable, it’s treatable at home.

If you happen to find it, the first thing I do is take a vitamin E pill and mix the contents with a small amount of food. I’ll also mix in selenium if I have it, because it aids in the absorption of vitamin E. Then, you need to hold their head upright sort of to allow them to eat and drink. Usually after a few days with vitamin E they should do better.

This is why I always add extra vitamin E to my baby silkies diet, at least occasionally.

However, if the condition is cause by injury or neurological, then you might not be able to fix it and the most humane thing then would be to put the chicken down as it will just slowly starve to death or die of thirst.

If you only have them for a week don’t waste money on a waterer. The dish you have is fine just add marble size rocks to it to just below the water level so the chicks can’t drown that’s all.

Aww that’s awful but this is useful to know as my cousin has silkie hatching eggs and are due to hatch sometime next week

That’s fine. You can even add more. At least now the chicks have something to get grip on and get out.

The paper towel situation, they are scratting and eating the paper I’ve taken it out because I just want know if I should be worried about that or not?

Never had that issue before with paper towel. You could try the doggy pee pads, or anything else that isn’t slippery. Some use paper from a shredder. Small piece of plywood. They shouldn’t be eating the paper towel. Make sure paper towel is flat and sprinkle the food on top. I forgot to add shelf liner that isn’t slick will work also. Old towels. You get the point now I’m sure.
