Mahonri , If your in here, do you prefer paper or styrofoam cartons, does the paper interfere with the humidity?
Ive always used little paper plates sides cut and taped almost like a square cup, But if your having a lot of success with the carton. I would try it . Im trying to envision how you cut it down.

You don't need to cut the egg cartons down, just poke a hole in the bottom of each cup to allow air in and place all the eggs pointy end down on day 18. They remain in the upright position and besides keeping the eggs from rolling around it makes cleanup a breeze.

Sarah, this is all new to us too, we did open the incubator hoping we could save the strugglers. Still not sure we made the right decision. We had to peel the shell off of 4 peeps. I used warm water, a qtip and tweezers. The not ment to be thing is true. Two of the four are perfect. One had a beak that did not line up and an eye that was caved in. The fourth was singled out when we first introduced to the flock and vanished. --Mindy

This is what I have been using. I bought them at Cutlers supply online and they were about .95 cents apiece. I cut them into sections of 12 and 6. Clean up the edges.

They have alot of ventilation and I can pop them in the dishwasher to clean.

I have ONE more question..

For some reason the heat shut down in my house last night. I got up at 6 this morning. The two that had pipped yesterday are hatched but I think one has a splayed leg.

(I didnt open to check!!)
Well the bator was at 95 degrees. Are the rest of them a lost cause now or can they still possibly hatch later today?
