THEY ARE HATCHING!!!!! Updated Pic Post #56

DearBuster:

If you are asking me that question? I set them on November 19 at 2:00 PM. I thought I would start the count the next day. However, I think today must be day 21.

I have no turning device. I have been turning them myself.

If you set them on the 19th then the 20th is day 1. It is not unusual to have them pip later than the 21st day so be patient- it will all work out.

Is your brooder set up? Make sure it's ready to go and have the temps stabilized. That way it's ready to go when the chicks are.

I forgot how to do the download for my picture, but here is the link for my homemade brooder.

I have a very precarious situation here. I dropped some water on the thermostat and shorted it. It was not even teaspoon full. It was such a stupid clumsy thing to have happened.

I have been up all night checking this thing every hour and more. The unit is totally fried. So I rigged a heat lamp and kept the humidity up. The temperature stabilized early this morning. Then I heard the peeps. I was beside myself. I just cannot let anything happen to them.

See how the right window is all condensed. I do not want to add any more water. I am afraid they might drown in the egg.

Keep an eye on it. If you have condensation on the glass it's probably ok. If the glass dries out add more water- this is what I would do if it was me. Good luck!

Becky, just about every quail hatch I've done have had some runts,
bad legs, drownings, and many assisted hatches.

I use both my Brinsea Octagon 40 and Little Giant Forced air with about
the same results. My hatches have been between 25 to 50 chicks at a
time so I expect a few problems.

As for the waterer I'm using a small shallow dish. The quail literally jump
over it and some play in it. I'm pretty sure a weak one just gets stuck
and doesn't make it.

I went back to using a water wigler to verify temps. I have my Octagon
set at 37.6 and my wiggler is floating between 99 and 100 degrees.
My air temp is between 101 & 102 and humidity is around 40% tonight.
I will add water tomorrow.

Every hatch is a new experience.

You and I should have a hatch together, just like Buster and me. 16 days
and counting.

Oh wait, I take that back. Monday was day 1 for
Bobwhites, silkies, Welsummers, 7 Americaunas.

2 days until my 3 Denzili eggs hatch.

The waiting and WAITING! And if you have one incubator as a hatcher and staggered hatches you can almost continually be waiting. I have some that are supposed to hatch on Friday, some a week or so later, some two days after that(yeah that was stupid), then the quail, then the new set of eggs I just ordered

and I keep hearing Phil say, "How are we going to feed them all?"
