Everyone needs a silkie. That's what my 20+ silkies tell me.

Quail are tiny little cute things. They are very different but equally fun.
They live in a cage, not a coop, so they are easier to care for.

they have to be the most adorable things ever.. all furry and fluffy! I'd just want to snuggle it like my fluffy cat!

How cute!

Hubby wants quail - bobwhite - he used to raise them when he was a little boy... maybe next spring

Thanks Mahonri. The quail are the same quail that Buster hatched. I have
13 breeders I got from Sam this summer. The golden quail (recessive
gene) are amazing.

The silkies are mixed colors that come from Flufnstuffs~FluffySilkies's &
HinkJC's Buff stock all mixed up. I just added more to my mix too.

Tell hubby I'm setting 25 Bobwhites today. They take 21 days so we'll
see ya in 3 weeks.

Do you have a bator? I don't sell eggs. I just force them on my BYC
friends.

My silkies aren't fertile right now but the quail are going strong.

Buster fell for it and now he is a quail owner. Sucker!!!

Man I laughed out loud when I read that. I remember when I first set these quail and thought: Now what in the world am I DOING??? But it will be a good thing, all my birds have been.

You said that you put the quail in cages. Is keeping them in a coop ok? Because I have a divided coop and could easily put them in an area by themselves when they are old enough.

Here is a link to the thread with the brower brooder pics:

That's not one brooder, it's three. WOW. VERY NICE!!!!

Yeah, you fell for the quail thing but I guarantee you will love them.

You already got revenge on me when none were hatching. Whew.
You have no idea how happy I am they made it. Mr. Quail Dad.

I'll get some more revenge on you in the spring when you get a big box of eggs from breeds you need to be addicted to.

Yeah it's three brooders. I have enough parts to make 2 levels fully functional right now. I'm working on some more parts for the third level. I am going to brood the quail in the middle one so my boys can see. The chicks I'll have hatching in the next three or four weeks can have their own level separate from the quail.

What do you all do with the quail? I just ordered an incubator and it says that it comes with 30 quail eggs. I was just wondering what the purpose of raising them is. Do you get eggs or what?
