They bit my baby...

So I guess this biting thing only happens with boy geese? I have white chinese geese, all girls. I bought them in two separate batches over 2 years and they are really nice even if they are loud. They get a little upset when I take their eggs but that's about it and they never charge me. If I come toward them they usually go the the other way, unless it's feeding time of course.

All my geese are pretty good. I have 1 3 year old African gandar, who will eat from your hand, I Toul gander that will hiss and snake his head when your back is turned, but that's all, a 2 Toul geese, a pair of Tufted Roman that will act big and bad then run like sissies, a Canadian goose, and 8 Sebbies.

The Sebbies will chew on everything but nothing mean.

When my DS was a baby we had two African Greys. One day the gander attacked him (he was only 17 months old at the time). I grabbed the gander by the head and slung him across the yard. He never tried to attack any of my kids again, but the poor baby was afraid of him until we got rid of him.

We have another goose right now ( I think she's a goose), and she has never tried to attack anyone. But she has to stay in the run anyway because of the neighbor.

My grandmother had a flock of geese when I was a child. Those geese chased us unmercifully, and I hated them. I can still see them, necks outstretched, hissing at us. The worst was the gander. When we would run to my grandmother complaining because they chased us, she just said, "Well, stay away from them then!" No help there!

Now, this went on for several summers, until one day the gander went after her. Need I say that by that night he was stew in the pot? I can tell you, I never ate anything with so much satisfaction.

And now...my mother has been given 4 geese. Since I take care of the poultry, I can assure you they won't be chasing me.

Oh your poor little one. How scary! And I love that story.

I bought some adult Africans off CL and we had some issues at first.

I took my walking stick out with me for days when my one gander was being nasty.

If he even came close to me with his head out and hissing I would jab him and yell at him until he became submissive.

He still gets an attitude now and then but I just point at him and look him in the eye and tell him to knock it off.

I have kicked him a few times too. I guess they just need to know the pecking order and I am not at the bottom.
