They came, they saw, they destroyed!!!

My chickens do that everyday to my flower beds. The don't hurt the plants just dig through the mulch. I have noticed they are after grubs. That is a plus. I does drive my husband nuts which I find funny because I do the gardening.
 
they made is chook fung-shway (sp?) but I believe that is the proper way to spread multch, we humans do not understand their techniques.

LOL. Now if I can only get them to practice this ancient foot-scratching technique in reverse where they put it all back...that would be ideal.

Because most certainly, even though I swept all of the mulch back in to the garden, covered the holes, and righted a few plants...they'll be back to re-design in a few days.

Mine are into raking leaves- I am still trying to devise a long row harness, so thay all rake in the same direction!

BTW, don't ever leave a bale of hay or straw where they can get to it! My front porch and walk are all straw covered now. Looks quite charming!
