THEY HAVE SHIPPED!

I was going to try it, but we no longer have lizards or anything besides the chickens to eat them. Plus I have cats that would probably knock the tank they were in over and then I'd have a mess because my cats are just like that. Lucky for me my husband's job is about 10 minutes from our pet store so I can always have him run over after work to get treats for them when I want them. Right now though mine are pretty set between the table scraps and veggie and fruit scraps they get every couple days. But it really is a wonderful idea to do. If I still had lizards I would definitely invest in it. Good luck to you guys trying it.

I did read about raising mealworms... I was thinking of trying it... We usually keep crickets in the summertime so we dont have to run to the reptile center all the time... but they sure are stinky!

We tried to raise crickets before and it didn't work... they just never laid eggs. Plus, I agree with you about the smell. Crickets are VERY smelly.

We just got our starter worms! I really hope it works.

The real trick to having chickens that don't smell..... Let them play in your rosemary bush!

For some reason all of my chickens love to play in our HUGE rosemary bush, but the buff orpingtons were the only ones that could be troubled to look at the camera. Chickens make me laugh.

SMonroe, do you have an EE pullet with this feathering pattern? Just from looking at your profile picture, it seems like you do. This is my EE, Nellie:

I raise crickets too, but it's more time consuming and I only got one batch of like 200 babies. They do stink. Most of the babies died and none of them made it to adulthood.

Xiao, yes I sort of do, she doesn't have as much black running down her back and in her tail like yours does, but is the same buff coloring with black to her. I will take pictures tomorrow to post before I let everyone out of the coop for the day. I also have a black and white EE which I am positive is a female and from some other posts I read on here I guess that is really uncommon, not sure how true it is. Very pretty girls btw.

Yeah, I was reading about the color sexing too, and it seems that a white female is pretty rare (unless it's crossed with some sort of other white chicken). Cool that you ended up with one!

Your bird is Elsa that was featured on the front page the other day, right? I figure as soon as she starts laying, if she lays colored eggs, then you can call her an EE. I mean, really, there's no breed standard, right? Just a few general traits, but they're really just pretty, colored egg-laying crosses of who-knows-what. Americauna or Aracauna, generally, but these days EE's come with Cream Legbar blood, too. So there's really no telling. She's a beautiful pullet, by the way.

Yes, that was her! I hope I get pretty eggs out of her.
