THEY HAVE SHIPPED!

Ack it says priority express!!
Yikes... Oh well I'll be praying that they will be okay. Most chicks that are shipped do okay, I know the chicks of the people on this thread were fine. Heat seems to be worse for the little guys, if they are cold they can huddle together but if they are baking on the back of a truck there's nothing much the poor things can do about it. This is a fairly safe time of year for shipped chicks, again, good luck and I'll pray for them!

The post office called at 10:55 pm to pick them up
400
we fought traffic both ways as the interstate was closed down to one lane and we got there to pick up the bresse at 11:25 pm.

There is one that didn't drink and eat and seems lethargic. I gave it a couple drops of poultry cell, and am going to attempt nutridrench in a few minutes. I hope the little guy makes it! I think it might be a roo, which would be awful to lose him right now, but that's part of having chicks shipped, not all will survive the journey.

When my bf gets home from work we're starting on the new brooder box for these chicks and my ayam cemani & haffie chicks to join the 4 ayam cemani and 2 haffie 5 week old chicks in another big brooder box in the barn.. separate brooder boxes obviously.

My bf said to let my 6 ac/haffies in my dp meaties pen, but I told him no way, they were going to need their own new coop/enclosed predator proof run.. with 3-4 brooder boxes built in under nesting boxes to either rotate my roos for breeding or for using for brooders or broody breakers lol. This is my 3rd coop/run this year chicken math.

This brings me to 55 chickens. On .5 acre in the city. I have lost my mind to ocd= obsessive chicken disorder with a huge helping of an enabling bf & friends.

We have been eyeing the property next door that's been abandoned for 6 years and is on 3 old city lots and we're on 2 city lots... I have big ambitions of urban homesteading and eventually getting off the grid. I might as well learn how to do everything now before trying to do it on a bigger scale off the grid making costly mistakes.

Glad the chicks are in and hope the little one pulls through. Chicken enabling friends are always fun. I tell my sister that she is a poultry pusher as she is always helping me to find room for a few more :)

Your allowed to have that many in the city? I would definately see if they are interested in selling!

My city there's no limit on numbers as long as it's not a nuisance and my roosters are all either getting a decrowing surgery or becoming capons. At least 30 of my chickens will go to freezer camp in less than 2 months. My numbers will greatly decrease. I'm keeping 1 ayam cemani and 1 white bresse roo to breed with any of the pullets out of 20 chicks.

Isn't decrowing surgery dangerous? I thought that most roosters don't survive it? Isn't it a mean surgery?
