They haven't left yet!

I notice most of you are well south of me, but my hummers left 2 weeks ago, so they'll be stopping by on their way.

I have only seen 2 wooly worms and they had very little black in them up here. Maybe it's too soon and a fluke. The leaves are now falling, so wooly worms will be more abundant - if I ever go out and start raking I'd see more!

I'm hoping for a mild and dry winter after the cold, wet summer we've had! I really dislike snow because I get stuck shoveling and looking that that stuff for 5 months out of the year anymore

Good idea! Do you know that if you are driving along and a squirrel runs across the road and you slow down (or speed up), you are more likely to hit it?
Squirrels are apparently very good judges of distance and moving objects. If you continue along at the same speed they will almost always make it across the road safely.
That is, unless it's one of those stupid squirrels that decides to run back after he's crossed.

Cool! No, I didn't know that and thankfully I haven't personally committed vehicular squirrelslaughter yet....

Maybe I will just use the cruise control when I travel down one particular stretch of road so I can keep my speed constant, my nerves in tact, and my truck on the pavement instead of up a tree from trying to avoid the little buggers...

There was a male on top of my feeder today. Just sitting there looking around and thinking I guess. I never really pictured them sitting still. He sat there for about 10 minutes.

I think it's going to be a bad winter too. I just have this sense of dread. Our house is 60 years old and it has no insulation. We keep putting off installing it. I bet we get it done this year.

I saw a hummingbird this morning. I haven't seen very many spiderwebs.
