They won't come in, out of the rain!

I posted a thread like this last month after coming home from some errands after it had be storming for a couple of hours. It was the type of rain that stops traffic on highways because it's so intense you can't see out your windshield. When I got in the house there they were standing out in the middle of it looking (to me) like they were absolutely miserable! When I ran out to shoo my sopping-wet excuses for chickens back into the coop I was soaked through in under a minute!

Still, most people seemed to agree that the rain is something chickens seem to welcome, either to escape the heat or to get some yummy worms. I hear you though... I was a bit worried mine weren't too bright after that.

Been raining here since Wednesday afternoon (Whoo Hoo almost 4.5", maybe drought busting, hopefully?) all the birds are out in it, even on the traffic stopping downpours. Not that the coop is totally waterproof at the moment but you'd think they'd get out of the downpour!

Birdbrains.....

It's been raining here since last night and mine refuse to take cover. They all look so funny with their feathers all matted down. At least my Silky can see forward now unlike usual when she has her fluff in front of her eyes.

Plus I am tired from chasing them around the yard.

I let my 6 RIR pullets..abt 3 mos old....out when I thought it was over. Listened to the idiot weather man ! Coming down in buckets here in
MA. I was going to ask if others were out too but didn't want mine to look like idiots. Their house is 2' up so they have that area underneath plus one of those 8 x 8 tarps on legs to go under.
They don't go in until THEY are ready ! Love em anyway.

So,... they like the rain but not the Hose? How much more strange can these critters get? They like styrofoam but not strawberries. and then there is the RABBIT

My girls also stay out in the rain...I worried at first...got soaked trying to shoo them back in the coop...but finally realized if they wanna stay out in the rain they must have a reason for it ....

In Northern California, we just had our first rain for the season. (It hasn't rained for over 3 months.) Nothing spectacular, just a few light showers. My hens were not happy. My Shirley was running around like the sky was falling. The other two went under a few bushes and gave me the look of death. Luckily, it cleared up and it has been warm and sunny since the afternoon. I think they need to get use to the rain.

I posted yesterday or the day before about my three who pile on top of each other in the pouring rain for protection but won't venture back to the coop. Anyway, I went to Southern States yesterday and talked with a clerk who also has chickens. She told me that the adage "madder than a wet hen" is absolutely not true. Most love the rain. That made me feel better about Brownie, Dolores, and Sunshine.

glad to see this thread- been raining all day- should be raining through tuesday and my silly chickens won't willingly come in except to eat or lay - i tried to dry them off tonite with a towel, they weren't too happy, although the roo didn't mind to much- so they won't get sick?
