Just a collection of comments my intro to animal science professor has made about chickens and other poultry because I thought they were worth sharing.

“Why? Because birds are weird.” Referring to any strange anatomical or physiological characteristics (there are several)
“Chickens are unionized. They have formed an egg laying union.”
“They have a sign on them that says ‘please eat me’”
“What will eat a chicken? The answer is yes.”
“This is really odd.” When looking at the crop of a chicken he was dissecting that was twice as big as it should have been.
“And that’s a great way to ruin thanksgiving.” Referring to the system of turkey AI.
“Their low light vision is very poor, nearly as bad as ours.”
“Chickens are not afraid to eat each other given the correct circumstances”
“And last is the shell gland…which forms the shell…”
“Fertilization of the ovum is kind of like that Indianda Jones movie with that big rolling stone…”

Feel free to add any other weird remarks that caught you off guard when learning about poultry.
