It really depends on the chicken a lot...they each have different personalities. I held mine a little each day from day one...I talked to them everytime I saw them, fed them treats from my hand and just took time with them.

My SLW is an oddity truly...she was born a stalker. From the moment I saw her and got my hands on her, she wanted to be with me constantly.

Even then, that's no guarantee. Especially when they hit their "teen years" That time just before they transition from pullet to hen.

My most recent additions to the flock (3 BR) went through that phase much to my dismay. They were so sweet and willing to be around me while they were fledglings. But, just before they started laying, for about a month, they wouldn't have anything to do with me.

Now, they're back to being their sweet and lovable selves. They like to be picked up and cuddled again and I couldn't be happier!

Now if I could just get the 18 month old LB's to feel the same way!

I don't think those two are ever going to come around to being affectionate! All because when they were little chicks I didn't have the time to cuddle them.

So, keep plugging away at it Nancy. They may yet come around to being affectionate!
