I honestly don't know if that matters. My two texts I got were one from each candidate and I'm an elephant. I would think they would be vying for your vote more because of you being an independent, not tied to either major party

Strange. I get lots of texts but have had only one piece of mail (not counting my ballot and the thing that some non-partisan non-profit always sends that shows you what the ballot looks like so you can practice without spoiling the real thing).
