Animals are fun etc and yes many are easy to tame but I really wish people who got them, planned on having them for LIFE. It's not fair to the animal to be abandoned after a few years because you no longer are interested, or are in a different apartment now and can't have pets or whatever.
I honestly have it in my will that when I kick the bucket, (if I don't take the rotten little #$#t out with me when I do go) that the bird goes to a sanctuary that takes care of them for life. It's fairly expensive but it's the least I can do for him. No you do NOT just give parrots / cockatoos / big birds away, it's a HUGE commitment and most people just don't realize this. My one neice was like, oh ill take him, ehh, thank you for the enthusiasm but trust me, it will not work out well. The first time one of your kids pulls his tail and gets a finger taken off, yep, game over...
That's another thing that angers me is people get pets, not knowing, or thinking it will happen to them, what kind of damage they can do to you!! They get bit and now all of the sudden want to be rid of the animal for just doing the only thing it knows to do to defend itself!
My cockatoo for example, loves people but if you annoy him or piss him off...
IF he knows you and likes you, .. you will get one warning nip,he will grasp your finger firmly to the point of hurting but not breaking skin, look at you and push your hand away from him and let go. If you don't take that message, the next one may cost you several stitches. He won't get punished for that one either, YOU were warned. I don't know how many times I see on craigs list, getting rid of xx bird, it bites. yah no $%$ sherlock, what did you do to the thing??
