Things you wish you could say

And here is the “toasted just enough” outcome showing the browning and hint of crusting like that chocolate frosted pop tart I said a few minutes ago.”

Looks soooo good

“As a manner of balance I routinely sniff cayenne, cumin, paprika, & the chili powders to make sure *thats* the hint I thought I was aiming for….”
Doesn’t it burn!?

Uuhhhmmmmm, perhaps we need a refresher on vocab?
Sniff = you nose is *near* to get a glimpse of the aroma

Snort = nose epidermis is touching the lip of the container & the powder coats the inside of you shnozz, throat & lungs worse than confetti at 12:15 AM New Years Eve in Times Square.

We all have referred to this as a “sniffing” event.

:lau you have to breathe to sniff 🤣

It's possible to get a whiff of something hot without hurting your nose.
The trick is in how close your nose is (or is not) and how deeply you breathe in while sniffing it.

You can also keep your nose safely back, and wave your hand to blow some of the smell toward you. This works equally well with hot (spice) and hot (temperature) things.

I keep coming back to nosing wine and whisky to get the flavors out of them.

Yeah, I guess you just have to be really careful!! I’ve tried the wafting thing with hot (temperature) stuff before and for reason I find I can’t really smell it as well as directly sniffing though I don’t do that

The trick is to get enough of the vapors to get the aroma w/o the steam blistering your bazoo!

Another trick if you really must, hold a glass upside down over it to capture some of the steam / aromas, then bring your face a bit closer, and bring the cup towards you and tip it so you can smell inside the cup. The contents cooled down enough not to burn you but the aroma's hopefully are captured in it so you can get a good sniff of what you are trying.

Worse case, grab a kid, say, here taste this, and if they run like a jersey wharf rat for the bathroom, then you know you got work to do yet on the flavor :)

Also, though I have seen it often in the grocery store, never really noticed it TBH. What is nutella?

Aaron

What is nutella?
A sweet, chocolate-flavored gooey stuff. The packaging brags about how many hazelnuts are in each jar, but the ingredients list begins with sugar and oil, with less hazelnuts than either of those. Chocolate is even further down the list.

It tastes pretty good.

If you like hazelnuts it might taste good, but I'm not a fan of hazelnuts or nutella. :sick
